Donley Auctions, Union, Illinois will sell the James Geibel ordnance collection at a live and online auction at their Union, Illinois gallery on Saturday, March 16, 2024, starting at 10 am CT. Mr. Geibel was passionate about military ordnance and explosives and was considered to be an expert in the field by colleagues around the world. During his early professional life as a member of the U.S. Army, he served at Ft. Holabird’s U.S. Army Intelligence School in Baltimore, Maryland. He followed his military service with a long career as a police officer retiring as Baltimore County’s senior Hazardous Devices Technician. He then joined the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms as a Program Analyst & Hazardous Devices Technician retiring from government service in 2016. Mr. Geibel passed away at the age of 70 on March 23, 2019.
The completely inert collection amassed by Mr. Geibel is considered to be the finest in existence. It will be sold in over 900 lots covering everything from early to modern hand grenades, self-propelled rockets, fuses, grenade launchers, demolition devices, blasting machines, teaching aids, and a large reference library.
